Beginning his 14th season at the helm, Jim Shaw is being as non-committal as ever about revealing which players will start or how much anyone will play for the Rose-Hulman men's basketball team in 2007-08.The lineups breakout within this story lists five names as probable starters for tonight's season opener against Montclair State in the four-team Manhattanville Tipoff Tourney at Purchase, N.Y., but those five are educated guesses from the Rose sports information department.Contacted Wednesday, Shaw said there are about 10 players who have a good chance of seeing significant playing time this weekend, but he declined to say which five would start. The 10 consists of seniors Phil Sundling (6-foot point guard), Ron George (6-3 guard), Jared Moore (6-3 forward) and Ross Uthoff (6-3 guard), junior Lorenzo Rice (6-4 forward), sophomores Derek Simon (5-10 guard), Jeff McCartney (6-1 guard) and Michael Crane (6-7 forward/center from Bloomfield) and freshmen Daniel Lowers (6-3 forward from Edgewood High School) and Michael Kelly (6-6 center).George is the leading returning scorer, having averaged 8.1 points per game last season.During the Engineers' 9-16 campaign a year ago, Sundling started all 25 games, Moore started 21, George 14, Uthoff three, Rice one and McCartney one, but Shaw insists the sophomores and freshmen mentioned above are strongly in the mix for playing time this season."They got their feet wet a little bit last year," Shaw said of Simon, McCartney and Crane.
