1:55 p.m. - Free backpacks for schoolchildren with 3.0 GPAs

Guam Public School System elementary schoolchildren who managed a 3.0 grade point average this quarter are being offered free backpacks, courtesy of Ad-ventures Publishing, Inc.

Parents and students can redeem their bags during the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and tomorrow Guam Premier Outlets by presenting their report cards for the first quarter.

Ad-ventures District Manager Gemma Lopez said company wanted to give back to the community and will take it even a step further by giving the school system $40,000 for distributing its new telephone directory to each of the islands elementary school children.

Ad-ventures plans to give out the bags every quarter.
