Shopping frenzy develops after Thanksgiving

Sometimes I think Americans can be divided up into those who go shopping the day after Thanksgiving and those who don't. I'm one of those who don't.

I never have wanted to get up in the middle of the night and wait outside a store for it to open at least two hours early, just so I could join the stampede inside and risk serious bodily injury to be one of the lucky shoppers who got a $4 widget for $3.I've seen news coverage of day-after-the-turkey shoppers stepping on each other's toes, elbowing each other aside, trading choice words and nearly coming to blows over the last widget. I guess what's billed as the biggest shopping day of the year is the nearest thing to a contact sport for some Americans. One thing that I think is wrong about Friday's shopping frenzy is the way many retailers have come to rely on it and the Christmas buying season for their entire year's success or failure.
