Get Targeted Traffic to Your Blog

Consider what categories and topics will be of interest to your target market and start to post keyword rich blog posts that specifically deal with each individual aspect of your niche which will drive targeted traffic to your blog as it gets indexed by search engines and promoted through social networking sites.

Once your blog is full of relevant content that is optimised with search engines you want to begin to monetize the blog and get paid either by referring affiliate products or from AdSense. The question is, how do you do it?

The first thing you need is a bucket load of targeted traffic to visit your blog.

Most of your traffic will come from your search engine natural listings, adWords, social networking posts or links. You should also consider using a number of widgets on your blog so that you can display a list of other related blogs. Programs just Blog Rush are great for getting some additional free traffic.

One of the first search engines you pick up should be MSN. Concentrate on them because they are one of the easiest search engines to dominate and will still drive a lot of free targeted traffic.

MSN constantly gets updated daily and can still provide a reasonable amount of quality targeted traffic as it covers about 1/10 of searches from internet users online. Yahoo will pick up next, though it is a little harder to get good ranking but still doable and it is worth the little extra work because Yahoo has more traffic when compared to MSN. Yahoo traditionally gets about 3/10 of the search engine share market from internet users.

Google have a huge market share in searches of about 5/10 from internet users online. It is always a challenge to get rank in Google but worth the investment in time as long as you are not competing with highly targeted keywords and phrases. Because it takes quite a lot of effort and time to reach a high ranking in Google, I would advise you to aim for the easier ones like MSN and Yahoo first.

Because search engines are designed to find related and relevant pages on the internet, so to get ranked high, you need to optimize your page to ensure search engines know what the contents in your page is about.

Search engine loves frequently updated websites or blogs especially when it is syndicated with RSS where your site is being updated continuously. I also discovered that search engines favour blogs when compared to websites.

Here are some key pointers that will determine your ranking in search engines

- Number of high quality back links to your site

- Number of people viewing your website (traffic)

- Age of your domain name

- Relevance of your article to the targeted keywords

Focus on these aspects within your site design and you will generate long term targeted traffic to your blog.

We all want to increase traffic and search engine rankings but there is no fool-proof shortcut that you can take that is guaranteed to be around for the long term. Any back-door or under-the-radar type systems can't guarantee your success in the long term like having quality, unique content.
