The Chestatee High School senior and 14 other construction students from throughout the Hall County school system have left the classrooms and shops at their respective schools to tackle a real-life home-building project.
They are climbing ladders, setting doors in place and swinging hammers, all under the watchful eyes of classroom supervisor Parke Hardgrove.
"This gives us experience we don't get in the classroom," Dye said. "It also gives us the experience of helping out in the community."
The school system has joined with Habitat for Humanity of Hall County and the Greater Hall Home Builders Association on a community-service project, "Habitat High," to build homes, a new one each semester.
The students are working mornings Monday through Thursday on their first home, a 1,300-square-foot, single-story building on Cooley Drive.
