Z' Wears the C'

'Z' WEARS THE 'C': The Syracuse Crunch announced on Friday, that they have named center Zenon Konopka as their team captain for the 2007-08 season. The club also announced that defenseman Dan Smith and right wing Steven Goertzen will serve as alternates at home games and centers Andrew Murray and Derek MacKenzie will wear the 'A' during road games.

Konopka, 26, becomes the ninth full-time team captain in franchise history (Dane Jackson, 1994-95, Mark Wotton, 1995-99, Brian Bunin, 1999-00, Mike Gaul, 2000-01, Sean Pronger, 2001-02, David Ling 2002-03, Darrell Scoville, 2003-04, Jamie Pushor, 2004-07.

Konopka appeared in 20 games with Syracuse last season notching 9 goals, 11 assists and 70 penalty minutes. He also played in 6 games with Columbus last year, tallying 20 penalty minutes.
