Geneva Finance in bank's hands

Stricken finance company Geneva Finance remains very much in hands of Bank of Scotland (BoS), according to the company's trustee and an independent sharebroker.

Geneva has borrowed $43 million with BoS and Graham Miller of Covenant Trustees said questions around that loan had to be resolved before a six-month debt moratorium expired for Geneva to avoid receivership.

Sharebroker Chris Lee said yesterday's meeting in Auckland to agree the moratorium had been a foregone conclusion because BoS's dollar-based vote outweighed all the other 500 investors at the meeting.

Mr Lee said he doubted if Mr Miller, who chaired yesterday's meeting, had the power to back his assurance to investors that he would prevent BoS being repaid its funds at the end of the moratorium.
