Healthcare In Canada

Healthcare in Canada is a vital subject for anyone moving to or residing in Canada. The Federal Government does provide some funding from the taxpayer for the health system, however, each Province is individually responsible for its own Healthcare system.

There is a basic free system (Alberta, BC and Ontario charge the residents a healthcare tax or premium to pay for this!) that every legal resident and citizen of Canada is entitled to which includes access to a family doctor and most hospital treatment (definitely emergency care). This is governed by the Canada Health Act (1984) which lays down the basic entitlements of free coverage. Prescription drugs and supplies are provided in the hospitals in most cases as long as you remain an in patient.

The costs start to mount up for prescription drugs and medical supplies when you are not in hospital. Drugs are bought from the pharmacy at the standard cost which for specialist drugs can run into hundreds of dollars for one course of treatment. Other medical services will probably not be covered such as Physiotherapy, chiropractic treatment and massage therapy. Custom made medical supplies such as knee braces or orthotics can cost over a thousand dollars to purchase in some instances.

The amount of coverage and standard of Healthcare in Canada is described in detail on the main Government site but does vary between Provinces however.

Each Province also has its own regulations for the practitioner’s qualifications and even nurses will have to recertify if they move between Provinces. This does cause confusion to new migrants to Canada as most foreign qualifications just may not be enough and will most likely result in some level of retraining. Dental treatment is normally NOT included in the healthcare system and you will have to pay for treatment.

Many Canadian employers offer fairly comprehensive benefits packages that include coverage for Prescription drugs and other services such as physiotherapy and chiropractic treatment though this is most often only up to 80% of the cost. As each Province has different rules for qualifying times to gain access for the free service ensure you thoroughly research your Province of choice via the links above.

If your employment doesn't come with coverage or you wish to improve it you will need to take out a private policy

If you require short term coverage for when you first arrive in Canada, make sure you have a proper policy (travel insurance may not be sufficient) and CHECK you are covered.

Using Buttons and Badges in the Health Care Industry

Buttons for hospitals can be a great way to spread motivation, identify people, and help with the healing process. There are a great many uses and fun projects that hospitals can do utilizing buttons. From Public Relations to patient care, buttons can serve you well in a hospital environment.

Any hospital with a children’s ward should have a button maker machine. Children in the hospital are often frightened, disoriented and of course ill. For patients who are able to sit up and draw, button making can help fill those hours between visitors, occupy their mind and make them feel useful. A positive outlook plays a critical role in a patient’s recovery and for children, it is important to inspire creativity to take their minds off their environment. Button making for the children can be both beneficial to their mental health and fun.

Provide a template to a child and some crayons or markers. Family members can bring photos or other flat items to add to the button. The children can be left to their own creativity or a daily or weekly theme can be used. For children who are long term patients, giving them a button to make everyday can ease anticipation and give them something positive to look forward to the next day. This will also help in establishing some form of routine, which in smaller children will help them feel safe in their environment. Completed buttons can be worn by the children, their families, the staff, or displayed on bulletin boards outside the door of their room. Displaying the buttons will make walking the halls interesting and fun for both children and family.

Buttons can be another great gift item in the hospital gift store. These are an inexpensive and easy item to make for sale in the shop. "Congratulations!" in pink or blue on a button for births would be a great idea for the new older brother or sister to purchase for mom. This same button can be added to a stuffed bear or bunny. "It’s a Girl!", "It’s a Boy!", and "Get Well" would all be great sayings for buttons to be added to stuffed animals or cards that are sold in the gift shop. For example, you can post a sign that reads "Buy a Stuffed animal and get a button for only a dollar more." Buttons make great keepsakes and are so inexpensive to produce that even at the price of one dollar you can make a handsome profit for the gift shop.

Buttons for patients and staff are another use for the button making machines. An interesting proposition for the new parents is to have a "New Dad" and "New Mom" button made up for them with the name, birth date, weight and length of their new child. These are great keepsakes for parents to put in baby albums. Proud parents can wear these buttons in the hospital and you can sell additional buttons for their family members such as grandparent’s aunts and uncles. Imagine the pride on a new older brother’s face as he wears a button that reads "Ask me about my new baby sister". These buttons show that you go the extra mile for your patients and their family.

Healthcare Providers--It's Time For Your Checkup!

I think this is a good time for a checkup, or physical as it is termed in the healthcare industry. I mean this is a good time to check the health of your site or setting. As healthcare providers, we are dedicated to curing our patients of their ills and keeping them healthy. My question is, “Do you have the same attitude about the place you work?” Is your site meeting its highest goals? If not, then it is time for a change.

I think that as a group healthcare sites are a lot like our patients. Some patients don’t work hard at keeping healthy. In fact, many engage in behavior that is very detrimental to their well-being. You probably can easily image such a person. Maybe they are very overweight. Well, there are many healthcare facilities that are like that. They have many processes in which there are steps which add no value, that are a complete waste of time and effort. Then, there are patients who do a lot of the right things. They eat correctly, get a good amount of exercise, and generally have a positive outlook. There are a few healthcare facilities that are fit too.

What does a healthcare site in not so good shape look like? These sites, I believe, have as their goals just to meet their compliance standards, those set by the state, JHACO, or the FDA or some other body. As long as they are being accredited, they are satisfied. Their attitude may be, “If it isn’t broken, don’t change it.” They are like patients who are content to just sit on the couch, watch TV, and eat whatever they like as long as they don’t feel poorly.

What does a healthcare site in good shape look like? I believe that such sites are continually looking for ways to better themselves. They engage in “continuous quality improvement” activities. They are really concerned about the health and attitudes of their patients and clients. They use surveys and they question and listen. Some even use a tool called quality function deployment when designing new facilities or programs.

Besides listening to patients, they pay close attention to their employees. They actively seek ideas from the employees on how things could be done better. They want to have their employees enjoy working at their site and support its mission. The leaders of such sites actively reflect this attitude.

Further, such sites seek ways to improve the processes at their site. They cut waste and save time and improve the bottom line. Many tools for doing this can be found in quality disciplines such as Lean Healthcare and Six Sigma. You can find a very good white paper on Lean Healthcare at the http://www.IHI.org website.

What are the results of these positive and active approaches? Our patients are happier, fitter, and find time to do the things they want. They generally live longer with fewer health problems. Healthcare sites which are actively engaged in continuous quality improvement programs generally find that they have the time to accomplish their objectives and don’t feel rushed, they have an improved bottom line, and they rarely experience adverse events. The doctors don’t have to work impossible hours to accomplish all they want. They work as a team.

Let me encourage you at this time to sit down with your colleagues and leaders and assess the health of your site. If you find that you fall short of what you should be, I hope that you put in the effort to reach the best goals. After all, we expect the same from our patients, don’t we?

Health Care

Hello all you wonderful people out there. If there is one subject that affects every one of us that is our health. What is the best way of taking care of our health?

Let’s take a brief look at some of our options for taking care of our health.

Some people believe in preventative measures for taking care of their health. What exactly does this mean? Basically, it means eating a healthy diet, exercising properly, and living a healthy lifestyle. A yearly check-up is also a good way to know what shape you are in and to catch any developing illness.

An unpleasant factor in modern life is stress. It is a fact of life. Fortunately, there are many ways to deal with stress. Conventional medicine is one method - relaxation medication. Meditation is another method. In between there are such options as daily rest (even if for ten to twenty minutes), spending part of every day in a soothing physical environment, taking a break, a change of scenery, a vacation. A good laugh, whether at a funny joke or at a comical situation is highly recommended for keeping your mind and body in good shape.

None of us is infallible. We are all prone to illness. What are our options when we do become ill? Again there is conventional medicine. Medication for practically every illness under the sun is available.

Personally, when something out of the norm is detected on my blood test, I make a bee line to the dietician’s office. By eating those foods, those vitamins, required by the body, balance can be regained.

There is more than one way of doing things. You decide what makes you feel good and how you want to stay healthy. After all, health is wealth.

When someone you love is severely unwell, you face one of the most difficult and delicate situations in life. You would love to be beside them to take care and make them feel secure and safe, but at the same time, you can't let your work routine come to a standstill, as that can cause major financial havoc. Of late, medial services such as medical call center and medical response answering service have become extremely popular due to the fast and accurate solutions they provide.

Many websites these days, cater to various health care services, which include health and safety call centers, family health call centers, hospital call centers and medical answering services. It becomes easy to find out information about the patient on the phone, from anywhere. Additionally some of them have medical answering services such as physician answering services and doctor answering service, which helps the doctors and patients to interact without a physical visit. You can also discuss symptoms and treatment.

Living Will Form - Health Care Power of Attorney Form

The purpose of a Living Will declaration is to document your wish that life-sustaining treatment, including artificially or technologically supplied nutrition and hydration, be withheld or withdrawn if you are unable to make informed medical decisions and are in a terminal condition or in a permanently unconscious state.

1. Life-sustaining treatment means any health care, including artificially or technologically supplied nutrition and hydration, that will serve mainly to prolong the process of dying.

2. Terminal condition or terminal illness means an irreversible, incurable and untreatable condition caused by disease, illness or injury. Your physician and one other physician will have examined you and believe that you cannot recover and that death is likely to occur within a relatively short time if you do not receive life-sustaining treatment.

3. Permanently unconscious state means an irreversible condition in which you are permanently unaware of yourself and your surroundings. Your physician and one other physician must examine you and agree that the total loss of higher brain function has left you unable to feel pain or suffering.

Having a Living Will does not affect the responsibility of health care personnel to provide comfort care to you. Comfort care means any measure taken to diminish pain or discomfort, but not to postpone death.

In most states, a Living Will is applicable only to individuals in a terminal condition or a permanently unconscious state. If you wish to direct medical treatment in other circumstances, you should prepare a Health Care Power of Attorney.

The Health Care Power of Attorney form gives the person you designate (agent or attorney-in-fact) the authority to make most health care (including dental, nursing, psychological, and surgical) decisions for you if you lose the capacity to make informed health care decisions for yourself. This authority is effective only when your attending physician determines that you have lost the capacity to make informed health care decisions for yourself. As long as you have the capacity to make informed health care decisions for yourself, you retain the right to make all medical and other health care decisions. You may also limit the health care decisions that your agent will have the authority to make. The authority of the agent to make health care decisions for you generally will include the authority to give informed consent, to refuse to give informed consent, or to withdraw informed consent to any care, treatment, service, or procedure to maintain, diagnose, or treat a physical or mental condition.

Healthcare Help For Entrepreneurs? Health Savings Accounts-What They Are And Why They Work

If you are in business for yourself, you have probably already discovered that individual health insurance is extremely cost-prohibitive. You may think paying outrageous fees is your only option. Or even that you can’t afford health coverage at all.

What Are Health Savings Accounts?

A Health Savings Account (HSA) is an insurance policy that was actually designed with the self-employed and the small business owner in mind. According to Mark Baker, HSA specialist for Golden Rule Insurance Company, “an HSA is a higher deductible health insurance plan that is coupled with a tax advantage savings account.”

The difference between purchasing individual healthcare and investing in an HSA is similar to the difference between renting a home and buying one. If you rent, each month you write out a check to help your landlord pay off the home you are living in (and you don’t even like him!). If you buy, you incur a higher cost up front with the deposit. But with every payment, you build equity.

The Bad and Good:

• You start with a high deductible. Not an attractive feature but it gets better.

• Your high deductible results in significantly lower premiums.

• The money you save, you can keep tax-free in your HSA. When you encounter any kind of medical expense, you can use that tax-free money towards your deductible.

How it works:

Let’s say you’re in a car wreck and wind up getting saddled with tens of thousands of dollars in medical expenses. Even though your deductible with an HSA is high, say three thousand dollars, the money you’ve saved (tax free) in your HSA will likely cover it.

When your deductible is met, your insurance takes over payments for its percentage of all your covered expenses. Every plan is different, but the most common scenario is that once your deductible is paid, you are covered for the remainder of the year.

You can even use the pre-tax money in your account towards dental and vision expenses. Or out-of-pocket costs, like filling prescriptions.

And as long as you have a Health Savings Account, that money remains tax-deferred in your account for any medical expenses you encounter. If you find at the end of the year you have not spent what’s there, don’t worry—it rolls over. In fact, it can just sit there and earn interest until you do need it. According to Mr. Baker, his company is now paying a 4% interest rate on their clients’ HSAs. If you spent that same money on the premiums of a plan with a lower deductible; that would just be money down the drain.

Future of Baby Boomer Health Care

Signs are pointing to a coming physician shortage in America. With the headaches that will bring, universal care should be the last hardship the government hangs around our necks.

The Los Angeles Times has reported that the "Demand for doctors is accelerating more rapidly than supply." The results will be - and already are in some places - frustrating: longer waiting periods to see physicians, particularly specialists; more trips to see a doctor; and decisions by many to simply forgo care.

Sounds a lot like Canada's nationalized health care system.

Canadian health care, held up by many as the model the U.S. should adopt, is a disaster largely because of the enormous demand it has created. Consequently, Canadians are suffering through a pandemic of poor health care at a time when technology should be helping them live much longer and healthier lives than could have been imagined a generation ago.

North of the border, unreasonably long waiting periods are the cause of much suffering - even death. Drugs and modern medical equipment that most Americans take for granted are in short supply. Hospitals are overcrowded, and doctors and nurses, fed up with it all, are quitting.

Blame a system under which a third party (the government, using tax dollars), pays for health care, thereby stimulating demand. When someone else pays the bill, people will consume more health care than if they were paying for it themselves. This is common sense. With demand artificially ratcheted up, the system cannot provide enough services to keep up.

Such a system is unsustainable. So why force a similar one on the U.S. when there aren't enough doctors now to keep up with the growing demand for medical services?

Physician search firm Merritt, Hawkins & Associates says it already takes an average 24 days for U.S. patients to see a dermatologist for a routine skin cancer checkup. And that's in our biggest cities, not rural areas. Waiting times are similar for gynecologists (23 days) and cardiologists (19). Universal care will only make these and other waits longer.

America's doctor shortage doesn't lend itself to a public policy solution. It's largely demographic: As baby boomers retire in record numbers - and likely get sick in record numbers as well - doctors within the baby boom cohort also will be retiring. By 2020, the U.S. could be short 90,000 to 200,000 doctors, Merritt, Hawkins estimates.

That means even longer hours for younger doctors, at least those who haven't been run out of the profession by excessive malpractice insurance premiums fueled by outrageous malpractice lawsuits and jury awards.

Medical schools want to boost enrollment in response to the low supply. But as long as the financial incentives of the profession are clipped by sue-happy trial lawyers, runaway juries and obliging courts, the shortage is unlikely to self-correct.

What are you to do? Take health care into your own hands of course. Try homeopathic or nutritional supplementation. Thus, eliminating the expensive cost of health care, time needed to see a doctor and the overall problem of even getting sick.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Take control of your health today. The health & wellness industry is expected to be a “Trillion Dollar Industry” by 2010. Supplementation use is growing and being fueled significantly by baby boomers. Now is the time to get on board the prevention and wellness industry.

Prevent Medical Errors: Control Your Own Health Care

The good news: There's been an unprecedented focus on patient safety in the past five years.

The bad news: Medical errors are the eighth leading cause of death in the U.S., responsible for as many as 98,000 deaths each year.

The better news: According to the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), while many errors result from the complexity of health care systems, patients can protect themselves by taking control of their health care.

Medication, surgical and diagnostic errors are among the most prevalent and can largely be prevented through efforts from government agencies, purchasers of group health care, physicians and health care providers to make the system safer. While waiting for these large-scale, national changes, however, you can play an active role in protecting yourself against medical errors by taking control of your own health care and getting involved with every decision.

"Don't assume everyone knows everything they need to about your health care," says Dr. Boyd Lyles, director of HeartHealth and Wellness Center in Dallas. "Research and practical experience show that patients who become more involved in their care get better results overall."

Here are some recommendations for getting involved with your own care to prevent errors:

• Ask for information about your conditions and medicines in terms you can understand. Medical information is often difficult to decipher and interpret. Make sure your provider explains your treatment plan in detail and do not leave until you understand everything you need to know about your medicines-both when they are being prescribed and when you pick them up from the pharmacy.

• Keep your health care team informed. Make sure your doctors know about everything you take, from prescription medicines to dietary supplements and over-the-counter medications. Additionally, be sure your doctor knows of any allergies to prevent getting a medicine that can harm you. Personalized medical ID bracelets and necklaces, available in a variety of fashionable styles, are essential to communicate this information. Rick Russell, founder of American Medical ID, says that in many emergencies, wearing a medical ID could make a world of difference in the quality of care you receive. "Having medical information front and center helps address many risks associated with treatment. Wearing a medical ID offers you and your loved ones peace of mind."

• Finally, exercise your right to question anyone involved with your care-from physicians to pharmacists to insurance companies.

Information To Help You Make Health Care Decisions

Armed with good information, you can be your own best advocate when it comes to making health care decisions. That means not only gathering information on specific medical conditions and the latest treatments, but asking questions and seeking advice during your doctor visits.

But where can consumers get reliable and accurate health care information? In many cases, it's from prescription drug advertisements. Studies show that direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising starts important conversations about overall health and disease between doctors and patients-conversations that may lead to new diagnosis and better treatment.

According to a Harvard University/Massachusetts General Hospital and Harris Interactive health care survey, for example, one-quarter of adult patients who consulted a doctor after seeing a DTC ad received a new diagnosis. Some of the most common new diagnoses included high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes and depression. These conditions are often undertreated and underdiagnosed in the general population.

"Direct-to-Consumer advertising plays an invaluable role informing physicians and patients both about disease and new and lifesaving medicines," says Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) Senior Vice President Ken Johnson. "Educational advertising empowers patients to seek guidance from their doctors, which can lead to earlier detection and treatment of diseases."

Guiding Principles

PhRMA recently issued new guiding principles to further improve the educational value of prescription drug advertising. Through these principles, pharmaceutical companies pledge to provide even more accurate information to patients and doctors about health and disease they can use. Key elements include:

• Companies should submit all new DTC television advertisements to the Food and Drug Administration before releasing them for broadcast.

• DTC television advertising that identifies a product by name should clearly state the health conditions for which the medicine is approved, as well as the risks associated with the medicine being advertised.

• Companies should spend an appropriate amount of time educating health care professionals about new medicines or new therapeutic indications before beginning the first direct-to-consumer advertising campaign.

PhRMA represents the country's leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, which are devoted to inventing medicines that allow patients to live longer, healthier and more productive lives.

The Importance of Gluten-Free Vitamins to Health Care

More and more people are recognizing the importance of vitamins in health care - especially those that are gluten-free. A growing number of people in our health-conscious society are taking pains to seek out information on gluten-free vitamins and food supplements.

Studies show that vitamins in general are important to a person's overall health. Most vitamins are available in the food we eat but not always in the right quantities. Also, vitamins and minerals are destroyed in much of the food we eat by high heat. Therefore, it is important to replace or supplement the nutrients that are lost.

Vitamin Deficiency in Health Care

Having a vitamin deficiency can cause many heath care problems. Maintaining the right balance is important to men's health and women's health. Problems are different for each gender, but both suffer from minor ailments such as sleep disorders, memory loss, poor digestion, enzyme loss, and low energy levels. Today, many are concerned about healthy skin, healthy bones, good cholesterol levels and weight loss.

Finding the right vitamin for your situation may help ward off serious problems later on. Doctors say that the longer you take vitamins the more substantial benefits there will be to your health. Read labels and see if the pills are protected from light by an opaque bottle. You do not want vitamins with artificial coloring or flavoring, sugar or gluten.

Dangers of Gluten

After many years of puzzling symptoms, health care providers have begun to recognize the threat gluten is to our system. Gluten is found most notably in wheat, rye and barley. Our diet has steadily increased in gluten consumption over the years. Along with that, many health care problems have arisen which are related to gluten in some people.

Not everyone has the same degree of gluten intolerance. Certain individuals are more predisposed than others because of their physical makeup. Symptoms of gluten intolerance are diarrhea, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, food allergies and fatigue. Other conditions are now being associated with gluten intolerance. Common autoimmune disorders such as Type I diabetes and thyroid disease are linked to gluten. Also the bone and nervous systems can be affected, causing serious health care issues.

Choose the Best For You

Taking a gluten-free vitamin seems to be a good choice for everyone. If you already suffer with any of the symptoms that are irritated by gluten, it would be best to avoid consuming it with your vitamins. Make sure that the vitamins you take are going to help you to their full potential by taking the purest formula available.

Health Care: The Many Advantages of Taking a Multivitamin

It is vital to our health to receive the nutrients our body needs. Most of these important vitamins and minerals are available in food, but not everyone gets the right amount from the food they eat. To prevent serious health care problems it is wise to make sure you supply your body with the right amount of these nutrients.

Why Take a Multivitamin?

Multivitamins provide essential ingredients needed to maintain good health. They come in different forms, including tablets, capsules, and liquid. This is the convenient way to get the daily doses of important nutrients. Along with a healthy diet, a multivitamin will help support good men's health and women's health.

Feel Better With a Multivitamin

Although most people do not suffer from serious malnutrition, their bodies might be slightly deficient in some nutrients. Even a slight deficiency can pose an increased risk of numerous diseases. Even what is considered minor problems can cause a person much suffering and loss of production. Sleep disorders, loss of memory, and lack of energy are common complaints. To support good health care, a multivitamin is very helpful.

Everyone has different needs due to lifestyles, genetics and age. There are different formulas that supply a wide range of nutrients at general nutritional levels.

Multivitamins for All Ages

People of all ages can benefit from a multivitamin. Children are growing and need nourishment for their organs and healthy bones. Pregnant women have special needs to help their child to be born healthy. As people age they develop different requirements for good health. Many young women have an iron deficiency and require an extra boost of iron. There are formulas for all ages and different needs to promote good health care.

Health Care Benefits

Some deficiencies are hard to pinpoint, but a multivitamin could help prevent serious problems in the future. Healthy skin, good cholesterol levels, diabetes, enzyme absorption and digestion are often improved with a combination of vitamins and minerals in a multivitamin. Some doctors use vitamins as therapy for specific conditions but it is not recommended to take mega doses without consulting your doctor. The recommended dose is the safest way to take the multivitamin.

One Pill a Day

Instead of taking a handful of supplements, a multivitamin can give you the recommended minimum daily requirements at one time. It will keep the dosages in balance to help insure the absorption of key ingredients. Doctors report that everyone would benefit from a daily multivitamin, and you will too!

Natural Oral Health Care Products Are the Recipe for Healthy Teeth and Gums

Contrary to what television commercials and magazine advertisements would have you believe, you don't need the chemicals in most toothpastes, mouthwashes, and other oral health care products to tackle gingivitis, periodontal gum disease, dry mouth, or bad breath. In reality, many of those advertisements mislead you into believing that simply using mouthwash will combat periodontal infection. In fact, the plant soaps, essential oils, vitamins, and herbs in natural oral health care products are often more effective in the treatment of gingivitis, in periodontal disease prevention, in dry mouth treatment, and in the everyday care of healthy teeth and gums.

Although most people don't make the connection, your teeth and gums can have a dramatic impact on your health and well-being. Gum problems, tooth decay, and even mercury fillings can have a negative impact on your health.

The Signs of Healthy Gums

When your gums are healthy, they have a nice pink color, and don't bleed when you brush your teeth. In addition, your gum line tightly hugs your teeth. Unfortunately, however, periodontal disease affects three-quarters of the population. Because it's often painless, most people are unaware that they have a problem.

Warning Signs of Periodontal Disease

The symptoms of periodontal infection range from bleeding in the gum pockets; red, swollen, or tender gums; an abscess on the gum surface; gums that have pulled away from the teeth; and persistent bad breath.

Bad breath is more than an embarrassment; it's a warning sign that unhealthy bacteria are growing in your mouth. If you floss your teeth and the floss smells like rotten eggs, you most likely have periodontal disease that is causing the hydrogen sulfide compounds in your mouth to multiply.

Similarly, dry mouth is more than an annoyance; a persistent lack of salivation can actual accelerate tooth decay and gum problems because saliva helps keep the bacteria and fungi in your mouth in check.

How Natural Oral Health Care Products Can Help

Natural oral health care products address the root of the problem, rather than simply the symptoms. For example, dry mouth can occur as a side effect of many medications, or as the result of a medical condition. Many commercial oral care products contain alcohol or sodium lauryl sulfate, which can further irritate and dehydrate your mouth. A refreshing, natural gel, on the other hand, can actually stimulate the salivary glands to produce more saliva, which in turn will help control the bacteria and fungi.

Similarly, there are many products on the market that advertise a solution to bad breath. In fact, most of these products contain alcohol, which over time dries out your gums and makes the problem worse. Natural oral health care products avoid alcohol and instead use a blend of ingredients that discourages the growth of the organisms that cause bad breath.

Good oral health care is a habit worth developing. And, by using natural oral health care products, you can be assured that you are doing all you can to treat the problems you have, or to prevent the development of gingivitis, periodontal gum disease, bad breath, and dry mouth.

Home heath care is an important step to recuperating from any illness hence any negligence would extend the time that you need to stay away from normal life.

Tips for Healthcare Savings: What Every Person Should Know

Are you interested in saving on your health care needs? Do you occasionally need a prescription drug, only to have to do without because you can't afford it? How many times, just this year alone, have you looked at your smile wishing you could go to the dentist?

Not only can you save on these needs, but you can also save on vision and hearing needs as well. With the healthcare savings tips below, you can take care of yourself and family members without going broke.

Save at the Pharmacy

There are several ways to save money at the pharmacy. If you own a business, both over-the-counter and prescription medications are tax deductible. When you file taxes, you can use medical bills as leverage to save on your tax bill. This adds up quickly when buying expensive prescription drugs.

There are also special discount cards designed specifically to save you dollars at the pharmacy. With these cards, you can get antibiotics prescribed by a physician at discounted rates and short-term medications such as painkillers, which you shouldn't have to do without when you need them. Also with many discount prescription drug cards and pharmacy plans, you can visit almost any major pharmacy chain.

Another way to save on prescription drugs is to always ask for a "generic" brand. Generic brands can be substituted for name brand prescription drugs if the physician permits it. Generic drugs are often less expensive but have the same healing properties. There are also herbal remedies that can sometimes be substituted for prescription medications. Check with your doctor and pharmacist to see if this is a possible solution.

Saving at the Dentist

You can also realize savings on your annual dental cleaning as well as root canals. Getting a crown can really make you dig deep into your purse. Luckily there are health savings plans that can help you with these and other orthodontia needs so your beautiful smile can be a reality instead of just a wish. Just as medical doctor bills and prescription drugs, dental bills are also tax deductible if you own a business.

There are also independent dental insurance plans you can purchase if your current insurance company does not offer a dental plan. You can use the Internet to research plans that are available in your state. Though these plans often have a very limited maximum payout per year, they can be helpful in saving on individual dentist bills if you go regularly.

Savings on Vision Care

Does a saving of up to 60% on vision care interest you? It should, knowing that a pair of eyeglasses just five years ago was well over $350! Not to mention the average eye exam at around $75. Yes, vision care can get quite expensive these days. You don't have to put off going to the eye doctor any longer just because you can't afford it. Most people do put it off for that very reason.

Healthcare savings plans and discount cards are also available for vision care. And yes, this too is tax deductible for business owners. Another way to realize savings on eyeglasses is to keep your same frames when getting a new prescription. The new lens can be placed in your old frames so you won't have to pay for new frames.

With these savings, you don't have to feel guilty for taking care of your much-needed eyesight any longer.

Savings on Hearing Care

That old saying, "Nothing lasts forever" can be so true. It seems that the hearing is usually one of the first senses to start fading. You shouldn't have to be embarrassed when the time comes that a hearing aid is needed to boost your hearing. It's all a part of life. Whether you are more interested in ordering products through the mail or visiting a local hearing aid center near you, there are healthcare savings plans to help you save money on hearing products and exams.

Use these tips to realize tremendous savings on your health needs and live your life without worry of outrageous medical expenses!

In Home Health Care Services Help Loved Ones With the Issues They Face

Most people are fortunate enough to live much of their lives with out worrying too much about how they will be cared for if they are unable to care for themselves – or, perhaps more importantly, how they would care for loved ones who need ongoing medical attention.

In-home health care services are an option that helps to minimize hospital stays. While our hospitals are very capable of providing adequate treatment, there are a number of advantages to in home nursing care.

Hospitals are busy places. Patients receive care, but, with an ever growing case load, hospital workers are stretched to make sure everyone has everything they need. Nursing care in the home is one-on-one, so all the patient’s needs are looked after.

Hospitals need to be utilitarian. That means hard floors, walls all the same neutral colours and medical equipment at the ready. This helps the hospital function better, but it can make patients uncomfortable. Home health care means patients are cared for in the comfort of their own home.

Hospitals are not always the best place to recover. Long-term stays in a hospital can make recuperation take longer. In home care has the opposite effect, patients have familiar comfortable surroundings which helps them to recover much quicker.

Patients with chronic conditions, or those needing palliative care, find the strength that comes from receiving health care in their home helps them to deal with the physical and emotional hardships that result from their condition. In home care gives a patient a greater sense of dignity, independence and pride that can make it easier for them to deal with the issues they face.

The advantages can be lost, however, if the wrong in home health care service is used. You need a home care professional who is a qualified home health care provider. They need to know about what ails the patient, its symptoms and the proper way to use any equipment that’s needed.

The home healthcare specialists at Qualicare are registered nurses who are specially trained in home nursing procedures. They know the healthcare system and can get the most benefit from it for you.

Learn About Holistic Health Care and Why it is Beneficial

Holistic health care is a phrase we hear a lot, but most of us would probably be hard pressed to come up with a definition. Indeed, even if we could, holistic health care means different things to different people, so definitions can change from one source to another.

The term holistic means approaching an entity as whole, because all of its parts are interdependent. As it relates to health care, a holistic approach addresses the whole person, paying attention to all of the interdependent parts, to achieve overall health and well being.

A holistic approach is aimed at maintaining a healthy body, mind and spirit. The understanding is, if there is a problem in any one area, it can affect the others, so we need to look after the whole person, mental and physical, to achieve maximum health.

Contrary to popular belief, holistic health care does not necessarily exclude symptom-based medical treatment. In cases of chronic conditions, diseases or temporary disabilities, especially those involving pain or quality of life issues, a holistic approach can include medicines, support for the body’s own healing ability and care for the patient’s emotional and spiritual well-being.

Especially with elderly patients, the impact of a debilitating physical ailment, coupled with the issues surrounding aging, can lead to mental and emotional issues, like anxiety, depression and isolation. Even a patient’s surroundings, like an unfamiliar hospital room or health care facility, can affect the patient’s ability to deal with an affliction in the best possible way.

In such cases, a holistic health care practitioner can work in partnership with the patient to provide care for the whole person, considering all the factors affecting the patient’s situation.

For example, if it is determined that a patient’s surroundings are adding to emotional stress or loneliness, simply moving to a more familiar setting could vastly improve the patient’s overall well-being and speed-up recovery.

Very often, a holistic health care provider becomes an elderly patient’s close friend and advisor, acting as an understanding intermediary between the patient, doctors and family.

Many studies show that lifestyle, our physical and mental activities, has the greatest impact on our overall health. A holistic approach to treatment of an ailing elderly patient makes sure their lifestyle constantly moves them towards better health.

Why Preventive Care is Important in a Healthcare Plan Provider

More and more progressive healthcare plan providers are offering patients preventive care options. This helps offset the number one concern of most consumers – cost.

When shopping for health insurance or any sort of healthcare plan, most consumers seek to protect themselves and their families from the potentially disastrous cost of major illness and hospitalization. Hence, preventive care is often an overlooked benefit that many consumers may not give sufficient consideration.

Following are some benefits of preventive care that you should consider when looking for a health insurance or a healthcare plan.

What is Preventive Healthcare?

A broad definition of preventive healthcare is “measures taken to identify life-threatening illnesses or habits with an eye towards curing, modifying and preventing them.” In other words, preventive care can be anything that helps you stave off illness and live a healthier lifestyle.

Why Preventive Healthcare is Important

Preventive healthcare is important for three reasons:

Early Detection Saves Lives: This is perhaps the most important reason to look for a healthcare plan that offers some measure of preventive healthcare options.

Annual mammograms, pap smears and colon-cancer screenings are all examples of preventive measures that help to save lives. Many life-threatening illnesses have silent symptoms. They only way to detect them is through some type of early detection test.

Take heart disease, for example. The American Heart Association estimates that roughly half of all deaths from this disease are sudden and unexpected. When you consider the great strides that have been made over the last 25 years in preventing and treating this disease, early detection can make all the difference in how well you will survive a heart attack, or whether you will even have one at all.

With illnesses like this, preventive care takes advantage of the advances in medical technology, detecting problems – or assessing the likelihood of problems – before they become life-threatening illnesses.

Modifying Behavior Leads to a Healthier Life: Preventive healthcare encourages many to lead healthier lifestyles. Getting regular exercise is one of the easiest things anyone can do to achieve overall better health. Many healthcare providers encourage this by offering discounts on gym memberships, yoga classes and other types of regular workout programs.

Another popular lifestyle change program that providers encourage is a smoking cessation program. Cigarettes are extremely addicting, and many smokers try for years to quite before they succeed. The benefits of quitting can prevent many healthcare problems, from lung cancer and heart disease, to stroke and heart attack, to many respiratory illnesses.

As the ultimate goal of all preventive care is to help patients live longer, healthier lives, amenities like this are natural offerings by healthcare plan providers.

Preventive Healthcare Saves Money: Preventive healthcare allows policy holders to get the most value for their healthcare dollars. This is because preventive care is usually much less expensive than treating a disease down the road.

To encourage this, comprehensive information is needed to make informed decisions. Forward-thinking healthcare providers offer members integrated solutions, like up-to-the-minute health information, medical alerts, drug recalls, wellness assessments and more.

This puts the information that members need right at their fingertips, allowing them to be an active participant in their ongoing healthcare.

Preventive care helps people to actively manage their overall healthcare. By encouraging regular checkups, regular screenings and an overall healthier lifestyle, individuals maintain better overall health, feel better, and minimize their health care costs throughout their lifetimes.

Home Health Care

People irrespective of their age may need assistance to support them at home. This can be because of many reasons such as recovering from illness, physical therapy, assistance in daily activities such as bathing, eating and dressing or even simple housekeeping jobs. An entire industry survives on offering these services and it is known as the home health care industry. The services offered include skilled nursing, personal care assistance, respite, shopping assistance and developmental disability care. In the United States there are numerous agencies which offer these services. If you are a resident of Florida, and require home health care services ensure that you seek the services of an agency which is licensed by the Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA). This will guarantee the level of services that are offered by the agency.

Home health care service providers offer their services in various regions of United States. You will find it easy to locate Plantation home health care, Pompano home health care, Wellington home health care, West Palm Beach home health care or Weston home health care and in many other counties. Before you select an agency to provide home health care service you should have answers to certain questions. Some of them are the timeframe for which the agency has been in operation, the authority of the agency to operate as a home health care provider and the availability of the service staff. If you have satisfactory answers to all these questions then you can be sure of the legitimacy of the agency. It is also important that you avail the services directly from the service provider and not through any third party. If you want to know more about home health care you should get in touch with The National Association for Home Care and The Visiting Nurse Associations of America.

Home health care is a very specialized and professional serviced that can only be given by trained professionals. On our part we should also support the home care staff with all necessary information and support regarding the health and general condition of the patient. This will make it easy for the support staff to deliver better services. The staff should be well informed about the patient’s illness, likes and dislikes, special diets and any other specialized health care requirements. Apart from the normal health related support services, home health care services extend to supporting normal household services such as shopping and giving general company.

Availing home health care services is a great way to enjoy a good health and living. There is a small caution that should be taken regarding the background of the support staff. Generally, all service providers do a background verification of their employees but it is a good idea to explicitly ask about it. Home heath care services costs are on the rise so it is advisable that you pay the agency through Medicare. Home health is a great way to good health and we should take care to avail the services at the correct time.

The New Healthcare - Discount Benefit Plans !

Maintaining good oral health, as well as correcting dental problems, is essential to a healthy lifestyle. However, a growing number of Americans are finding themselves without effective dental coverage to treat and maintain their dental health needs. This is due in part to businesses increasingly cutting back on dental benefits for their employees. As a result, people have started looking online to explore their dental benefit options.

The main question people are asking is, “What’s the difference between Dental Insurance and Discount Dental Plans?” There are distinct differences between the way “traditional dental insurance plans” and “discount dental plans” work. As a general rule, dental insurance is utilized by large groups and businesses to cover their employee’s dental care. Dental insurance requires paying monthly premiums for defined coverage. Dental insurance is not readily accessible to individuals and families, unless provided by their employer.

Some drawbacks of dental insurance include annual spending maximums, deductibles, waiting periods for certain procedures, and limitations and exclusions on care. There are also tedious claims forms to fill out and submit. Dental insurance usually covers the cost of preventive services (such as cleanings and exams) only after deductibles are met. Annual deductibles vary from $25 to $50 per covered individual, depending on the policy. The cost of deductibles should be considered when calculating the overall costs associated with dental insurance. While you are able to use any dentist, the monthly premiums for dental insurance may be as much as $30 per month for individuals and over $100 per month for family plans.

Discount dental plans, on the other hand, are available for the millions of Americans that do not receive dental benefits through their work or business. Discount dental plans are designed to provide consumers access to dental networks at reduced rates. These plans, are commonly known as “referral” or “reduced fee” plans, and are not considered an insured dental plan.

Discount dental plans are affordable to join and are the most widely available dental programs for individuals and families. These discount plans work differently than dental insurance plans, yet provide consumers with real and substantial savings on most dental procedures. Discount dental plans are membership-based programs that usually provide coverage on an annual basis. Consumers pay a membership fee in exchange for secured discounts on most dental services, such as dental exams, routine cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals, dentures, crowns, and braces.

These plans typically save our members 30% to 80% on most dental procedures when visiting a participating network provider. Most discount dental plans provide a “fee schedule” with the discounted fees listed out in the membership materials to ensure consumers will receive their promised savings.

While there are several differences between traditional dental insurance plans and discount dental plans, they can also be used together in certain situations to maximize savings.

Federal Grants And Its Role In Health Care

According to USAspending.gov, a website that promotes transparency, stated that in 2008, the United States government spent $106.464 billion dollars for federal grants. Last 2004, the government spent $15.5 billion, and from this amount education has the largest share of 23.4 percent, while health share followed suit with 22.3 percent.

Everybody seems to award health grants, the federal government, state and even city governments award health grants. Aside from federal grants, there are also big private foundations and organizations that award health grants and health care aids.

Unfortunately, weakened by the economic crisis, more Americans are unable to hold on to their health insurances and continue with private health care. There are more people turning to health centers for care. Health care grants can be provided to health centers to provide care and services to those who are continually suffering due to economic crisis.

Aside from health centers, health grants also enable some hospitals and medical professionals to:

* Expand people's knowledge on certain diseases and its prevention, like HIV/AIDS or diabetes.

* Provide screening and tests to those who cannot afford to obtain necessary medical tests.

* Provide health care to marginalized and minorities.

* Provide health care education and services to culturally diverse populations.

* Build or improve health care facilities.

* Provide assistance health care staff and organizations.

Federal grants also provide support to health education. There are health education projects throughout the United States with the objectives of teaching students about good health and healthy lifestyle. Not only will these project equip the students with the knowledge, but also aims to teach and train school administrators, teachers, and school staff about health, fitness, disease and drug and alcohol abuse prevention.

Health education grants are not only course and seminar oriented, there are also grant programs which focuses on the financial need of the students. Here are some of the health grants that provides assistance to health course students.

* Advanced Education Nursing Traineeships - this grant is geared towards providing financial assistance to registered nurses who are undergoing advanced training or education programs.

* Health Administration Traineeships and Special Projects Program - this grant is to support students in graduate health programs like health administration or hospital administration. This programs helps the students to be prepared for employment with public or non-profit institutions.

Health grants would also include funding research and training programs. Here are two health grants that focuses on research and health improvement:

* National Research Service Awards- health Services Research Training - this is a project which focuses mainly on health services research. This grant is actually awarded to provide opportunities for those who are taking predoctoral and postdoctoral training. The objective of this grant is to provide trainees with the ability to understand research methods and analyze/evaluate health care services and provide means to improve it.

* Research on Healthcare Costs, Quality and Outcomes - this is also a project grant which concentrates on research, information dissemination and actual delivery based on the research. This aims to evaluate the effectives, quality, cost-effectiveness, health care technology used, health statistics and medical liability. Research is directed towards low-income groups and minority groups with the intention of better providing health care services for these groups.

There are many federal health grants that could be taken advantage of, the important thing is that people can take advantage of health care that they need or at least be knowledgeable about taking care of one's health.

Wearable Sensors - the New Affordable Health Care Option

In the run-up to President Obama's healthcare reform plan, any time you heard about the major new reforms planned, you just thought of how it was going to be a huge step up for big government. That seems like a lot more paperwork, a lot many more government departments, and more bureaucracy to strangle everything. There has been another trend though, a quieter one this time, that helps counter all the concentration of authority in one place that the health-care reform brings in. Most of it comes about through new high-tech home diagnostic solutions - diagnostic sensors available to individuals, all Internet-connected to make healthcare providers aware of all that goes on with your health. Not only does this make for more control in the hands of the individual, it makes for affordable health care because it cuts down on hospital visits, the number of doctors needed, and it removes a lot of the responsibility for monitoring, treatment and many kinds of diagnoses to primary care doctors, and sometimes to the patient.

When patients have the means to diagnose and monitor their conditions themselves, it becomes possible to catch many health problems before they turn serious. And if you already have a chronic ailment, managing it becomes much easier. They call this the medical home initiative. Getting this plan off the ground though is not going to be easy. To begin with, there will be all those new devices to buy, the process of giving them to patients, and the setting up of a system to maintain them. Since these machines will be monitoring your health 24/7, it's going to know when you aren't following the doctor's advice, and when you won't exercise. And this kind of intrusiveness is going to be pretty unpopular. And yet healthcare providers were pretty enthusiastic about what the picture looks like long-term - affordable health care for the patient, and even more affordable healthcare for them.

One of the first kinds of diseases these are in use for has to do with sleep apnea diagnosis and treatment. People with sleep apnea stop breathing in their sleep, and sometimes die of this. It happens because of the way their throats are formed. A piece of tissue can block the air way to their lungs. And this condition when present likes to often contribute to other problems such as diabetes, obesity, chronic high blood pressure and depression. Doctors even believe that the tiredness people feel from not sleeping well enough from apnea, leads to car accidents. Diagnosing this disease in people costs $4000 today, and most people are so reluctant to spend what it takes, they put it off until something serious happens. The new home-diagnosis device for sleep apnea by Watermark Medical is a curious-looking thing. It is a headband that you wear, and it holds a little testing device in place close to the top of your head. It has sensors and a little inbuilt computer (powered by the same Intel processor you find in your netbook). It continuously measures the oxygen in your blood, the airflow as you breathe, your pulse, your snoring, and it gives you a voice warning if you are in danger. And this is an example of how it makes for affordable health care. Testing with this device only costs $250.

Certainly, doctors would prefer the traditional sleep lab approach that would cost thousands of dollars. The pursuit of medicine however is basically philanthropic. And no doctor would want pursue it purely for profit - if more affordable health care options existed.

Preparing for Your Future? Consider a Health Care or Medical Power of Attorney

If you have already reached the prime of your life, it is a wise move to create a power of attorney that designates a trusted person who will make choices regarding your health care and finances on your behalf when you are no longer mentally capable of doing so. That person, which is also called the attorney-in-fact or agent, can be a relative or a friend and doesn’t necessarily have to be a lawyer. You can grant a medical, health care, or both types of powers of attorney to secure your future as well as your health and assets.

Medical powers of attorney particularly involve medical care decisions that agents make for their principals. You still need one even if you already have drafted a living will. Medical powers of attorney and living wills are two different legal documents. The former merely authorizes a person to make important medical care decisions such as those regarding use of life support when the principal is mentally incapable of doing this for himself or herself. On the other hand, a living will indicates what a person wants to happen regarding his or her medical care when time comes life support is necessary.

Medical powers of attorney are not only beneficial for elderly people who are suffering from serious diseases. Younger people who have had an accident or are suffering from a health problem that renders them unconscious can also use these powers of attorney. In any case, you can choose a person who you trust the most to decide on your behalf according to the available information at that time.

That person who you assign as your agent must perform whatever you require even if it runs contrary to his or her own wishes for you. If you want something to happen in a specific situation in the future, your agent must follow your orders even if it is against their will to keep you alive despite your health condition.

Choosing an agent who will make medical care decisions for you is not enough. You also need to discuss with your agent your wishes in specific instances such as the kind of medications you want and don’t want to take when you are unconscious. In doing so, you can rest assured that everything goes smoothly as you planned when you are mentally incapacitated.

Another power that you can grant to a trusted person concerns your health care. Health care powers of attorney refer to legal documents that designate someone to make financial decisions for your estate should you become disabled, in which case you cannot make decisions on your own.

Once you become mentally disabled, your agent gains responsibility of handling all your finances. An agent or attorney-in-fact who handles your health care differs from a successor in a living trust. The agent is allowed to manage your finances while you are still alive, while a successor gains control of your assets only after your death.

Illnesses can happen to anyone at anytime, so it is important to have a medical or a health care power of attorney while it is still early rather than to let your family members become confused about making decisions regarding your medical and health care.

Medical Lift Chairs: Contributions To Health Care

Big thanks to medical lift chairs! The medical industry has gone a long way with great contributions from these specialized chairs that provide ease and comfort to both patients and doctors. There is no doubt that even doctors are greatly benefited whenever these chairs speed up the recovery of their patients. From arthritis, back problems, varicose veins, to disabilities, and to old age, lift chairs play significant roles in advancing the quality of health care like never before.

So what medical uses have exactly these lift chairs already fulfilled?

Medically speaking, lift chairs primarily address health problems pertaining to the bones, including muscles, and blood circulation. Designed to give comfort to individuals with physical limitations, lift chairs have now evolved from specialized equipment to basic furniture that are a must for lovers of comfort especially when at home. Of course the manufacturers do not mean to encourage (virtually) all individuals to use lifting mechanisms when standing up from a sitting position, or vice versa. But whenever you'd like to take a rest – perhaps read a book or watch television shows, or even take a nap – reclining to some specific positions can surely help you prevent certain health problems that may otherwise cost you worth of hundreds of lift chairs to cure.

Back problems, various forms of arthritis, and other related health conditions are among the top reasons why health care professionals recommend the use of lift chairs. Patients who are suffering from weak bones, especially on the knees, whether old or young, can really have a hard time getting up from a sitting position. The spine also deteriorates as part of the human aging process. This explains why lift chairs are primarily targeted to old people. As such, doctors often advice the use of lift chairs and the practice of adopting certain positions that can lessen the pressure on the spine. No more forcing of fragile bones and muscles just to be able to stand. Lift chair will do it all for you!

Blood circulation problems are also addressed by lift chairs. The capability to adjust the frame and maintain various positions for different activities – including when no activity is literally being done except sitting – makes it well suited for those seeking to improve their blood flow. For varicose veins on the legs, for example, it will be ideal for someone to position the footrest higher than the seat. Some lift chairs even have massage options and other features that can relieve muscle pain or pressure sores. The structure of the backrest, whether tufted or buttoned, and even the way the arms are padded, can tremendously affect the condition of your body which also directly contributes to good health.

Medicare has now even incorporated in its program the privilege for its beneficiaries to reimburse a portion of the amount they spent for buying a lift chair – provided they meet certain medical conditions.

Medical lift chairs are indeed a great contribution to quality health care. The next step would be to find the right lift chair that can exclusively cater to your own physical and health requirements.

The United States - finally - puts health care insurance in reach of all its citizens!

The passage of the health care bill on March 23, 2010, has finally made health care insurance available to every U.S. citizen. This astounding fact has brought hope to millions of Americans, and in a time when the character of the United States has been diminished by the shameful policies and practices of the previous administration, when most Americans had lost faith in their nation, the passage of the health care bill has transformed the image of the United States throughout the world. Its passage has also given all Americans a fighting chance to live in health to a good old age, for now all Americans will be able to obtain health care insurance.

Health care in the modern age is at its greatest moment, more than at any other time in human history. Only a hundred years ago, life expectancy was less than 50 years. Thanks to better nutrition and advances in scientific pharmacology and medicine, most of us in the U.S. can now expect to live well into our seventies. Most of us who reach this age will require some medical treatment — we'll fight for every minute we can add to our life. The cost of medical treatment to prolong our lives is usually highest in our later years. Seniors who could not afford health care insurance, or, had been excluded from it because the condition that was doing them in existed prior to their application for insurance. Until the passage of this bill, such unfortunate people had to resign themselves to dying earlier than they would have, had they been able to get the medical treatment they needed. With the passage of this bill, American seniors can now get affordable health care insurance at any time, pre-existing condition or not.

The costs of health for the youth of the U.S. are not as great as it is for seniors. By virtue of youth, the young body is able to withstand the enemies of human life much better than the elderly, but there are always exceptions. Many families will have a child who is born with a congenital disease, such as diabetes 1. The recent swine flu epidemic showed that at any time the young can be stricken with disease at a greater rate than the elderly. Nature is unpredictable; at any time sickness may come, an accident may threaten our lives, even the lives of the young. No one is exempt from these dangers, but with state of the art medical treatments, most can survive, we can be healed, and go on to live up into our seventies. This potentiality, however, was seriously threatened, not because we lacked the technology to cure ourselves or prolong our lives, but because the cost of medical insurance for the young was more than most of us could afford, The child born with a congenital disease could not be insured at all.

This has all changed by the passage of the health care bill of 2010. Now, insurers will be required to provide coverage to anyone, whether they have a pre-existing condition or not. Now, insurers will be constrained in what they charge. For those who are poor, insurance will be available at a low cost with the government subsidizing individuals as needed. Now, insurance companies will not be able to cap coverage. Prescription coverage for those on Medicare who must pay for their drugs after their Medicare costs reach $2,700 and until the costs hit $6,154 (it's called the 'donut hole'), will receive reimbursment for their drug expenses until the hole is closed in 2020. With these measures, and more to come, health care insurance is now available and affordable for everyone.

By 2020 all Americans will be required to have health care insurance. Now that health care is available and affordable to all citizens, be aware that you don't need to wait until then! If you don't now have health care insurance, get it! Your country has made health care possible for you. Be proud your country cares for your life and your health. Such care is what makes a nation great.
